Start of building of street scene - Buildings research:

Before I begin to start modelling various different buildings for the street scene, I felt that I need some more research on various building as and streets that would have been found in 1950's America to help me get the general feel for what I will need to be including in my own models, but in a more stylised, cartoon style:




 
 
 


After doing research into what American cities would have looked like both in the present day and I 1950's America I feel that I will now have a much stronger grasp on what I will need to be imitating in my own work.

The bank - Putting it all together....

For me and the rest of the group to get an idea of what the rest of the building will look like, I have put together all of the elements that have recently modelled, including the walls and windows, pillars and the bank vault room.









I think that all of the different elements of this work well together and that I makes for quite and imposing space.
Although this is never going to be what the final design for the bank vault and how it will look it was useful to be able to see all of the different models in the right sort of setting .

First initial model for bank vault room:

The room in which the bank vault is situated will be one of the most important sets for me to model as it will be where most of the action of the film will happen. therefore, the design and modelling will take some time and many different design versions to make sure that the end result is perfect and that everyone involved with the project is happy with it.

The main design features that will need to be included in my modelling are that the room will need to be round, but with a flatter wall at the back, as this is where the bank vault door will sit. this has all been clarified for me in designs that I have been given:


From this design I can now see the exact dimensions of the room that will be required, as well as how it will be attached to the rest of the bank room set.

With these design requirements in mind, I have done some initial models for the general shape and dimensions of the room.






After discussing my first attempt at modelling this room, we felt that it looked too realistic and not stylised enough to fit with the look of the rest of the film and that I would need to make the proportions of the room more extreme and wacky. I felt that the best solution to this would be to use deformers on the set to make the proportions more extreme without having to create everything from scratch and having to have any complicated geometry.

With all of this in mind, I then went about using various deformers to see what shapes and varying proportions I could get to make a more visually exciting looking set:








After putting various deformers on different sections of the set and pushing the geometry to the very extreme I think that some really interesting designs have emerged. my favourite design in particular is the last two as I think that they are the most striking but also are still a realistic space for the action of the film to happen in.

As this design is still ongoing I feel that what I have come up with will really help when it comes to making more finalised decisions for when the modelling for the building will be finalised.
