Designs for neon signs:

One of the other important elements to the exterior set is a selection of neon signs that will be dotted about on various buildings in this environment. they will be one of the more colourful elements to the set and therefore will require an intricate design and as they will be bright and glowing, will need to be both stylised, but still fit to the right period of time.

to help me to understand the varying colours shapes and designs of neon signs I did some research to help me get to grips with both the design and how the signs are manufactured to see if it will help to aid me in the design process.

Taking this research into account I then have created some blueprints of a selection of signs that I think will work. I also used the initial design that were given to me by ben of how he would like them to look. one of the main things that I learnt when doing my research was that the image created on the sign has to be a clear and simple representation of what the building is. I therefore decided to make a dice, cocktail glass and a burger.

these are designs that ben created:

And these are my blueprints:

From these blueprints I then made some initial models of each sign:

Overall, I am very pleased with these designs as I think that they are quite sticking but will also fit in well with the rest of the environment, but will act as an added embellishment to the scene.
