Because it is a very detailed design I then created some personal blueprints for the design so that when it comes to me modelling the actual sign in maya, I will feel that I have a clearer idea of how I will go about replicating this design in maya.

From both the original concept art and my own blueprints that I created I then when about creating my first version of the neon sign. I found this design extremely challenging to model as it is a very intricate design and it took me a long time to get it right as I needed to keep it as close to the design as possible.
This is my first initial model for the neon sign:
On the initial design created by ben there is also some writing. I did some initial models of some text, first modelling it by hand, and then using the maya text tool:
We eventually decided that we will possibly not use any text as we feel that the design is striking enough without it. And that the sign might be in a shot that is quite far away from the camera so the text may not be readable.
